Five NESBA Members Accepted into the 18th Annual Botanical Art Exhibition at Filoli in California: April 5 - June 12

Carrie Megan, Faye Van Wert, Jeanne Reiner, Jeannetta vanRaalte, and Dorothy McCauley will have their work displayed in the 18th Annual Art Exhibition at Filoli located 30 miles north of San Francisco. Filoli is a unique and fitting venue for this historical art form that has rendered plants throughout history and from around the world. The Filoli Botanical Art Exhibit has long been an essential part of the Botanical Art Program’s mission to interpret and preserve this historically significant art form. The work reflects the rich tradition of botanical art and adheres to high standards of botanical accuracy and skilled use of media.

A New England Society of Botanical Artists members’ exhibit at The Arnold Arboretum is open to any NESBA member in good standing (dues paid). Members may submit up to 2 works (space permitting) 

Subject/Theme of exhibit: Woody plants of New England (native or non-native accepted)
Due dates:

■ Deadline for submission of “Intent to Exhibit” Form*: Wednesday, June 1, 2016

■ Deadline for delivery of artwork to your contact person: Thursday, June 30, 2016

■ Artwork may be priced for sale or labeled “Not For Sale” (Wall labels are not allowed to have prices, therefore a book will be at the venue that lists artists, their piece, and price, if for sale. Please supply your asking price on the Intent to Exhibit Form.).

■ Exhibit hanging date: July 5–7 (TBD)

■ Reception: July 9, 1:00–3:00 pm

■ Demonstration Day: August 13, 2–4 pm (Interested in demonstrating botanical art? please contact Nancy Savage)

■ Take Down: September 12, 2016

Framing: Please follow NESBA standards for this exhibit: white or off-white mats and simple, wood frame in a light, medium or gold wood color. No saw-tooth hangers. All artwork must be delivered in a bubble wrap “envelope” (see website for instructions on how to make one). No packing peanuts or artwork will be returned.

Packaging and Labeling:

Three labels can be found on the NESBA blogspot: and are to be used as follows:

1. Download PDF and print.

2. Attach one label to back of artwork in lower corner.

3. Attach second label to front of the bubble wrap envelope so that your artwork is returned to you in your envelope. (see website for how to make a bubble wrap envelope)

4. Enclose third label in a Ziploc bag with $10 cash or check for hanging fee for each piece hung.

Artist Statement: If you are submitting an artist statement/bio to be included in the exhibit’s promotional material, please send a one-page statement with your “Intent to Exhibit” form to Pat Buchanan. Guidelines for your statement are posted on the NESBA website. Artist Statements are optional. A small number of business cards may be included with your artist statement.

No commission will be taken by NESBA on artwork sold as a result of the Arnold Arboretum Exhibit.

NESBA exhibits at the 2016 Boston Flower & Garden Show

NESBA presents a members exhibit at the 2016 Boston Flower & Garden Show,  
Seaport World Trade Center, 200 Seaport Blvd, Boston 
 Wednesday March 16 through Sunday March 20
  The exhibit showcases over 55 works by members from all over New England.  

NESBA has participated in the Boston Flower and Garden Show for many years.

Members of The New England Society of Botanical Artists enjoy the opportunity to promote public appreciation of the art and science of botanical art and illustration in New England. The Society educates individuals and organizations about botanical art and illustration through exhibits, lectures, workshops, and outreach programs.
