"From the Mountains to the Sea" exhibit opens!

The Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, Massachusetts, hosted a warm and welcoming reception for the opening of our "From the Mountains to the Sea" exhibit this past Sunday, May 19. Many NESBA members and their families and friends attended the opening of this long-planned exhibit, and celebrated what will be a year and a half-long tour of New England. Over sixty works of art highlight native plants of New England. At this venue, a second NESBA exhibit is alongside it, showing botanical works of a general theme.
Here are some photos taken from the opening on Sunday.

NESBA member Christine Leddy was accepted into two juried art shows in May 2013. The first exhibit was at the Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford, CT and featured her work, "Pinus Ponderosa".

The second exhibit was "Art in the Windows", the Carriage Barn Arts Society in New Canaan, CT, where accepted artwork is displayed in store windows in downtown New Canaan. Two pieces were accepted into the show, "Waterlilies Botanical Study", based on the Monet show at the NY Botanical Garden last fall; and "Pink Amaryllis Study".

All three pieces are 18x24" and rendered in colored pencil.

Christine would also like to announce her new website, GildedWorks.com, which encompasses her artwork, inspirational cards and custom designed evening purses featuring hand embroidery and gemstones.

General Minutes for New England Society of Botanical Artists

General Minutes for New England Society of Botanical Artists May 4th, 2013 Meeting at the Museum of American Bird Art at Mass Audubon, Canton, MA.

NESBA board members met at 9:00 am till 10:30, after which time they were joined by other members for some refreshments provided by Joan Pierce, and a rare opportunity to view a collection of New England bird decoys. In addition, one of our hosts, Amy, brought members downstairs to view original works by artists such as Audubon and Mark Catesby. Another member of the museum team, Julienne, provided an interesting history of the publication of “Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of Birds of Ohio”. The group was able to view several examples of the exquisite nests and eggs that Genevieve Jones, her friends and family sketched and colored during the late 1800’s.

It was a beautiful day in Canton, and NESBA members enjoyed viewing and learning about several unique examples of bird art at the museum!

Congratulations to two more NESBA members!
