From the Mountains to the Sea: Plants, Trees and Shrubs of New England

The New England Society of Botanical Artists (NESBA) traveling exhibit, having finished a successful viewing at The Art Complex in Duxbury, Mass, is on view at the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont through December 1st. The exhibit then travels to
  • Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford, CT (Jan- Mar 2014) 
  • Bedford Public Library in Bedford, MA (March -May 2014) 
  • Audubon Environmental Education Center in Bristol, RI (May-June 2014) 
  • Coastal Main Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, ME (August - Sept 2014) 
The juried exhibit of 63 paintings by 43 NESBA members feature a variety of techniques used to depict native plants, including watercolor on paper and vellum, colored pencil, silver point, pen and ink, copper etching.

Each venue includes an additional display of works by in-state artists. The Montshire Museum also set up an educational display explaining the art and science of botanical illustration, with tools, photos, herbarium specimens and illustrations by Vermont artist Bobbi Angell, and an interactive display for children of all ages to learn to observe and draw leaves.
