NESBA donations request Art Supply Project: Horace Mann School for Deaf

From Linda Oliver:

Dear NESBA Members,

Organizing your studio? Wondering what to do with extra paper and paints? We've got the answer!
Sarah Roche recently presented a workshop for senior art students at a local school for the deaf. I participated as teaching assistant. (See her article on p.29 of The Botanical Artist, June 2011.) This was an eye-opening experience in many ways... Studying art is a real challenge for deaf students, who must constantly shift between teacher demonstrations and the signing of verbal information.

Further complicating this situation is an extreme lack of art materials, from the basics on up!
Sarah and I would very much like to offer support to these students by collecting any art materials which NESBA members can offer. Paper, paints and other media, brushes, etc. Items needn't be brand new, so long as they are in usable condition. Also, please donate any EXTRA SUPPLIES you already have; no need to purchase items!

Art supply donations may be DROPPED OFF at:

The Wellesley College Friends of Horticulture Visitors Center
The FOH office is open from at least 10 am - 3 pm Monday-Friday. If they have a class that starts/ends outside those hours, the office is open while class is in session.

OR
DROPPED OFF at:
Joyce Westner’s home (leave on front porch if she is not home)

OR
MAILED/SHIPPED to, or DROPPED OFF at:
Sarah Roche's home (leave on porch if she is not home),

Any contributions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your support in making this project a success!
*The WCFH Visitors Center will accept your drop-off donations through the end of October.
Thank you!!
Linda

Suellen’s directions to the West Newton Neighborhood Club. (GPS to 24 Berkeley Street, West Newton, MA 02465)
· Take 95/128 (called both in these parts) North or South to exit 24
· Head east on 24, which is also called Rte 30 and also called Commonwealth Avenue for 2.5 miles. You will pass the Newton Marriott on your left which is where the conference will be held, and eventually the Brae Burn Country Club on your right.
· About a quarter mile after the Country Club, turn left at lights onto Chestnut Street, drive up the hill and you'll pass the All Newton Music School on your left.
· Take the second left onto Berkeley Street and you'll see a tall hedge with tennis courts behind it. That's the place. Park on the street and walk down the walkway to the left of the courts. People may be playing tennis, so please be mindful of our competitors trying to get into the US Open next year.

If lost, call Joyce’s cell 781-654-9026.

Carole Ely’s details about what we’ll be up to:-- Listen and learn about plans for conference events with reports on Hotels, Workshops -- in conference ones as well as pre-and-post conference events too, Travel Central, HNHM Glass Flowers reception, Small Works, Silent Auction, Saturday Banquet, PR with our new blog, and the list goes on ... but the meeting won't. We will try to keep it fast paced and still give time for your critically important input before we finalize the details.

Please let us know if you can attend the Update Meeting for the ASBA 2011 Conference in Boston (or if you can’t attend and are not already signed up for a committee, let us know if you'd be willing to help with set-up and at the conference itself. NESBA members need not be registered for the conference to volunteer.) All hands on deck!

Congratulations to NESBA Members!
